Redesign time!

For the past couple of weeks I've been working on my personal identity as an illustrator, working on my business cards, mailers and website design. I've always thought that I have a very erratic style of illustration, which while exciting ain't all that great for presenting an identity. However after designing my portfolio site and putting everything together I can't help thinking it all looks very...me!

So after several bizzillian hours of adobe muse and bashing my head again the desk I present my new portfolio website. Complete with updated work! (That is all very me!)

Back in town!

The third and final year of my degree has commenced and oh dear lord I'm already drowning in stress. Be not alarmed however, I shall be getting my butt into gear and posting and updating everything quite quite soon. (pinky promise!)

Saying that, recently I have been more inclined to post work to my Tumblr account and while I shall still be posting finished projects here (soon!) I feel more comfortable throwing out work in progress and quick collage/sketchbook pages there.
It's weird I know but there you go!

Computer Arts

Exciting stuff, my poster from the one day briefs got used to promote the universitys final show in the latest issue of Computer arts (201)
I know its not a proper feature but its still published work and I am super chuffed!

The exhibition is running until the 13th at the Brampton road campus in Carlisle.
Get a better look over at Grillust.

Ceramics made in the university workshop.
So they're not the most beautiful of artefacts but I like em.

Lost in the Post

Finally dug out my camera and found the photos of all the birthday, mothers day and thank you cards I made recently. Lots of fun to do!

Little White Lies

So since my entry didn't get short-listed for the D and DA student awards(   ):  )  I can finally post it on the internet without fear of violating their rules.
I chose to design the Little White Lies magazine cover for the illustration brief since its the sort of thing I'd love to do in the future. You got to pick from a list of films including Black Swan, Tinker Taylor and Drive, and much as I wanted to stare at Gosling's face for a week, I just had to choose Abram's Super 8, if only for the fantastic hour long train wreck scene. So, so good.
Its such an amazing film, like a combination between ET and the Goonies, with explosions and the classic Spielberg big eyed monster at the end. I can't recommend it enough.

Here's the cover I finally decided on. I really like the texture and style from the digital collage and I'm pretty proud of my first proper attempt at this kind of technique.
Multiply you are a beautiful thing.

Saying that ,while I love this piece (for once), it really doesn't embody the feel of the film. It needs to be darker, more mysterious and maybe more creepy. Less white space as usual and less pussy footing around with colour!

Went through quite a few goes before I was happy with it.

You can see some of the primary work in my semester 2 portfolio.

It point blank refuses to embed but I promise it's beautiful when it does. Ahh Issuu...
