Mysterious Cornwall

The Adventure Issue:

I've been through a bit of a love/hate period with this section of my Cornish guide project. I love the colours but they were a terror towards the end. Maybe too contrasting? The typography thew a tantrum too and has been through about eight incarnations. I'm super happy with here it's at now. Although the illustrations make up the whole I like the map part being so typographically different.

Surf instructions coming soon. (or as soon as I remember how...)

The myths and legends in cornwall really are brilliant. There's claims for not only the site of Camelot and the resting place of Excalibur but Atlantis too. Also lots of sea monsters, giants and mermaids. Well worth a visit!

20/04/14

This easter weekend instead of being a normal person and spending all day everyday relaxing I've been sweating over getting a new comic done. So heres a sneak!
I'm sure I'll like it more when I stop seeing solely in yellow and blue but I'm quite proud. I'll upload the whole thing as soon as I can.

The comic explores the rather difficult subject of depression but definitely from a hopeful standpoint. Its a story and substance over style kind of affair.

In other news....

I managed to get to the beach this week and I've scavenged a real cool bunch of stuff!
LOADS OF DRIFTWOOD! Which is exciting since we don't really get a lot of flotsam like that in the bay. Naturally I crawled around the shoreline in my wetsuit like a toddler on holiday (literally, I looked a state) but I'm going to make THINGS!!!  and hopefully make some munny while I'm at it. Cos that'd be nice.

See it pays to keep all your accumulated craft junk. (I keep saying)

I also had a brilliant low tide sunny costal adventure with the dog!
And as ever my best friend responded by helping out and eating half of the driftwood and depositing it around the house.

Nothing Gold Can Stay.

!CLICK FOR NICE RESOLUTION!

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leafs a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Who needs kidneys anyway?

My mum has always had problems with her kidneys since she was a kid but during the summer their 'functionality' dropped to a dangerous level and so it seems that she needs an extra one soon!
In the meantime she'll be starting peritoneal dialysis. Its scary stuff but shes got lots of love and support around her.
For Christmas I was browsing potential dialysis safe cookbooks (recipes with low potassium, no fresh or dried fruit and no chocolate or marmite! etc, etc and etc) And there were bugger-all nice looking or well designed books to be had.
I think it makes the whole restricted diet thing much more depressing when the design bores you to tears so I designed a happy colourful and fun cookbook!
Bon Appetit!

Potassium is the major baddie in this. And its in lots of stuff that everyone likes to eat lots like potato and crisps and chips and lots of fruit and veg. Its sucks. But you can get rid of it via the Double Boil. It just means meals take a little while more to make.

I actually made and tested all these recipies and the the Pantzaroslata was by far the most fun.
Lots of pink and beets!

I'm massively happy with this, its a really lovely little (actually huge) book that I can give to my mum. It's not much but it feels like something towards everything.

(I'll get better photos up soon! Promises!)
